"It's in the corner for now." Former ambassador warns of military escalation

- What has been launched at the moment is testing the ground for some solution. Donald Trump launched it and now we are seeing different reactions - said Jan Piekło in the program "Punkt Widzenia Jankowskiego". The former Polish ambassador to Ukraine stated that another global conflict is not ruled out. - For now, he is standing in the corner and maybe preparing to enter the stage - he added.

Former Polish ambassador to Kiev Jan Piekło was asked by Grzegorz Jankowski how to interpret the latest information, according to which the European Union was the largest importer of Russian energy resources after China last year and how he sees a way out of the deadlock around Ukraine.

- This shows how inconsistent the European Union is - said Piekło, pointing mainly to countries such as Germany, France and Spain.

According to the diplomat, Poland has nothing to reproach itself with in this matter, but overall the situation is "morally questionable", especially since the world is entering what US President Donald Trump started, i.e. transactional policy.

In Jan Piekło's opinion, what has been launched so far, mainly thanks to the USA, is only "testing the ground for some solution" .

- Donald Trump started it and now we can see different reactions. And the most interesting reactions, unfortunately, we have in the Pacific and this is very dangerous. It is possible that China wants to open a second front for the US - said the guest of Polsat News.

Evidence of this includes the increasingly bold movements of the Middle Kingdom in the Tasman Sea between New Zealand and Australia, as well as, for example, violations of the territorial waters of Vietnam and South Korea.

- Something is happening here. We in Europe do not notice it, and this is something that is important, if not the most important, for Donald Trump - Piekło mentioned.

Equally disturbing are the words of the ambassador, who predicts that we are facing World War III. - For now, he is standing in the corner and perhaps preparing to enter the stage - he predicts.

Asked specifically about the situation in Ukraine, Ambassador Piekło believes that we should not count on a quick end to the war. - I am afraid that this war is already proving more difficult to resolve than President Trump initially thought - he said.

As he adds, without security guarantees, Ukraine has no chance of becoming a country applying for membership in the European Union, while "Western Europe looks more at itself".

Jan Piekło also does not have the best opinion of the Polish presidency in these difficult times. - The Polish presidency is terrible, Prime Minister Donald Tusk does not exist - assessed the diplomat.
